LIBRARY SPONSORS 8th ANNUAL PET FOOD DRIVE

The Flora Public Library, in cooperation with Fur a Good Paws, will be sponsoring a pet food drive, “Feed the Furry,” again this year.  The library’s 8th annual pet food drive begins Monday, September 18 and will end Friday,  October 27.  October is Adopt-A-Pet month, too.

Pet food items, suitable for dogs or cats, may be dropped off at the library during regular operating hours.  Currently, kitten chow is needed most but all pet food is welcomed.  In addition to food, donations of clumping and non-clumping cat litter, nitrile gloves, paper towels, Clorox Wipes, vinegar, bleach, laundry detergent and dish soap, would be very helpful.

Fur a Good Paws is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Clay County that provides a licensed no-kill rescue that cares for homeless pets. The group is grateful to have received a donated building that is being remodeled as its rescue and pet adoption center. The cat area is finished and they are currently remodeling the dog area which should be finished by the end of November.  The group promotes spaying/neutering and pet adoptions to reduce the number of homeless pets in the community. For more information, visit http://www.furagoodpaws.org/.  They are also on Facebook.

Hours at the library are:  Monday – Thursday 1:30 to 8:30, Friday 10:00 to 6:00 and Saturday 10:00 to 3:00.  For more information please call the library at 662-6553.  Donated items will assist Fur a Good Paws in helping rescue animals and other needy dogs and cats.  Please help our four-footed friends by giving to “Feed the Furry”.

Flora Public Library is announcing a fundraiser for the library’s technology fund. FPL recently had its HARSTAN collection digitized in order to preserve it.

Digital copies of HARSTAN yearbooks from Flora High School, for years 1920-1977 will be made available for sale to the public. Years 1978-2001 may be released at a later date.  Editions from the last 15 years, will not be made available for sale to the public.  This is in compliance with the agreement made with Flora High School prohibiting sale of the last 15 years of HARSTANS.

Each copy of the HARSTAN requested for purchase will be saved onto an individual flash drive provided by the library. Multiple copies of the same year will be saved on individual flash drives as well.  One copy, regardless of date, equals one flash drive.  Digital editions from 1920-1977 will be available for purchase for $25.00 per copy, both for same year and different years.  Any defective flash drive will be replaced upon return of the original to the library within 30 days of purchase.  For computer security reasons, copies will not be saved to personal devices.

HARSTANS will be ordered by filling out an order form and returning it to the library. Order forms must accompany all orders.  Order forms may be obtained in person at the library, downloaded from the library website at www.florapubliclibrary.org or requested by email at florapl@florapubliclibrary.org.  Anyone paying with PayPal will use the PayPal form on the library website.  A postage fee of $4.00 will be charged per flash drive if an order is mailed.

Patrons needing HARSTANS for years 1978-current, may use the print editions that are part of the library’s Local History Collection. Patrons may contact Lisa Hemrich, Yearbook Coordinator at Flora High School, 618-662-8316, about purchasing print copies of the HARSTAN that are still available for the last fifteen years.

Proceeds from digital HARSTAN sales go to Flora Public Library’s Technology Fund. Digital HARSTANS would make great birthday, anniversary or Christmas gifts!!!
